A Belgium woman is being investigated by the police for auctioning her baby on the internet. The woman originally carried the baby as a surrogate mother, but backed out of the contract and auctioned the baby on the internet for £15000 where she was bought by a dutch couple. The couple were apparently on the list to adopt a baby, so one would imagine that she did go to a good home, although it is believed she will be removed from their care. The amazing thing though is, there aren't actually any laws preventing this woman from selling her child! technically, from a legal perspective, she hasn't done anything wrong! apparently campaigners are now calling for surrogacy to be made illegal in belgium.

Oh, god. But you can understand that there wouldn't be any legislation in place for this particular event. I mean, it's not something you'd expect to come up. Slightly sickened, Erin

but a lot of people are paid to carry children for other people. How is this any different. If she had a contract with the people whom the baby went to, and the sum was agreed upon to carry the baby how would that be wrong?

no df there's nothing wrong with carrying a baby for someone, but in this woman's case, she had a contract to carry the baby for the other couple, who were going to pay her 10 grand, she then reneged on that agreement and sold the baby to an unrelated couple, over the internet. and Although she had a contract with the first couple, it isn't worth the paper it's written on because surrogacy isn't recognized in belgium, as this baby was her baby, she had the ultimate say in what happened to it.

Dragonfire there is a world of difference between those 2 scenarios, this heartless creature saw a baby purely as a commodity its a wonder she didn't advertise the wee soul on Ebay!
